After submitting your application, here’s what to expect:

1. Confirmation of Application: You’ll receive a confirmation email. Keep this safe—it’s your proof of submission. Make sure your email is saved in your inbox. However, this message could drop into the spam section of your email, too. So keep checking for it.

2. Shortlisting Process: The NYS will review applications and shortlist candidates for tests and interviews. This is where the real competition begins. Will you be among the chosen few? That’s a question only NYS can answer!

3. The Testing Phase: If you are eventually shortlisted, prepare for the aptitude tests. NYS will assess your cognitive abilities and skills. Practice makes perfect. What do you need to do to pass this aptitude test?

Ensure you familiarise yourself with the types of questions that may appear. Last year, numerical reasoning, verbal reasoning and practical skills were tested. So, make sure you practice all these test questions on your own.

A secret tip is to work on your time management when taking these tests. Do well to practice answering questions quickly and accurately. If you beat the time, what is the next area of assessment?

4. The Interview Stage: If you pass the tests, the interview awaits. This is your moment to impress. One tip most candidates use to pass is to be conversant with common interview questions. Ensure to prepare your answers in advance.

What will you do differently for the NYS? Why NYS? These are some of the questions you need to answer before progressing to the next round.

5. Be Confident When Answering Your Interview Questions : During the interview, be yourself. Confidence is key. Speak clearly and honestly about your aspirations and values.

Of course, you might be timid, but do not allow yourself to be overwhelmed with fear. You’d be surprised how well you’ll perform if you take fear out of your mind!

After the interviews, the NYS will make their decisions. This is the moment of truth. Will you receive an acceptance letter or find out you need to try again next time?

The answer to that question would be in your next email!

Selection Process of the NYS

After you have been selected, an exciting experience awaits you. What would you expect? You’d expect to undergo paramilitary training program for six months. That’s not all!

At the last day of the program, you’d be posted to serve in various capacity within Kenya. Of course, you can be posted to one of the following industries such as:

  • Construction
  • Traffic Control
  • Public Security
  • Agriculture

Conclusion

All in all, the National Youth Service (NYS) is a good training platform for young individuals. We believe through the guidelines and other updates provided on this page, you have been able to successfully submit application either online or offline.
