About HoAGW4RP Internship Program

The Horn of Africa Groundwater for Resilience Project (HoAGW4RP) has been secured by MoWSI from the International Development Association (IDA) of the World Bank.

Primarily, the program aims to penetrate and encourage sustainable management of groundwater and would be ongoing for give (5) years. Over 1,500,000 people living in the rural communities in Arid and Semi-Arid Lands (ASALs) shall benefit.

Who Can Apply?

The Horn of Africa Groundwater for Resilience Project (HoAGW4RP) internship targets youths especially those who graduated with bachelor’s degree or equivalent certificate in the last two (2) or three (3) years.

The program offers real-time experience that compliments theoretical academic knowledge in areas relevant to ground water development and management.

HoAGW4RP internship program shall be overseen by the Ministry of Water Sanitation and Irrigation (MoWSI) but managed by the Regional Centre on Groundwater Resources (RCGW).

Interns shall be offered monthly or quarter stipend according to the Part II of the Public Service internship Act 2023.

Requirements and Responsibilities

  • Prospective intern must be within 18 to 35 years.
  • Prospective intern must have graduated with a Bachelor’s degree from a recognized university within the last two (2) years.
  • Prospective intern must not be employed or a beneficiary of any other internship program through out the 12-month period.
  • Prospective intern must possess good communication and writing skills, be proficient in relevant computer applications, be creative and adaptable and also be in good mental and physical health.

Throughout the program, below are the key responsibilities you shall be executing.

  • Intern shall report to assigned office within the institutions carrying out HoAGW4R project.
  • He or she must document the skills acquired throughout the program.
  • Must implement complete tasks assigned by supervisors/mentors.
  • Comply with existing work ethics of the public institution assigned to.
  • Ensure clearance by the relevant authority before existing assigned work station.

Indulging in any of the activities below can lead to termination of the internship for you.

  • Staying away from work station for more than two (2) days without due approval
  • Committing criminal offence.
  • Non-Adherence to lawful instructions.
  • Underperformance.
  • Unacceptable work ethics.

Note: Internship program may be terminated by either an employer or the intern by submitting a one months’ notice in writing to the head of public institution to which the intern is deployed.

Yes, selected youths shall be deployed to several agencies and counties that are under the HoAGW4RP project. This is where the application of theoretical knowledge shall be applied and value gained. These counties include Turkana, Wajir, Garissa, Marsabit, and Mandera.
