Local Defence Units (LDU) Mandate
The Local Defence Units (LDU) was set up by the Uganda government as a paramilitary force with the aim to assist and collaborate with law enforcement agencies like the Uganda People Defence Force (UPDF) to maintain security, peace and order in the society but more at the community level.
A standby workforce is required to attain this set goal, as such the Local Defence Units (LDU) do conduct recruitment exercise from time to time to fill open vacancies.
Sequel to this, discipline, result-oriented, honest, motivated and patriotic citizen of Uganda interested in joining the Local Defence Units are invited to submit application online at the official recruitment portal www.recruitment.updf.go.ug.
Uganda LDU Recruitment 2025 Dates
The recruitment exercise is set to commence on Monday, 7th July 2025 and shall be closed on Friday, 11th July 2025. Those who seek to join the force must submit application online within the specified period.

Eligibility Requirements
Being interested in the Local Defence Units recruitment alone is not enough as qualified candidates must meet the requirements below.
Citizenship: Applications shall be accepted only from Uganda nationals who possess valid National Identity Card or Passport.
Age: The recruitment focuses on youths within the age of 18 to 35 years.
Fitness: Applicant must be medically, mentally and physically alright. This shall be confirm by a doctor’s report from a recognized medical facility.
Patriotism: Applicant must be a law abiding citizen with zero criminal record and must not be convicted before. Should be residing in the area of application.
Documents required: Passport photo, academic certificates, National ID, duly signed application form by LCI, LCII, LCIII chairperson, GISO or DISO and resident district commissioner (RDC).
Education: Applicant must have Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE) P7 and S4 certificates, be able to express self in both verbal and non-verbal form.

Local Defence Units Recruitment Process
The Local Defence Units (LDU) takes almost the same form as UPDF, interested candidates shall first submit application online before the specified deadline.
Successful applicants contacted shall then report for physical recruitment which shall hold across all 135 districts and 11 cities.
During the physical assessment, candidates shall present Medical report, handwritten application, and recommendation from LCI, II, II and GISO/DICO as well as National Identity Card, original and copies of academic certificates, and three (3) coloured passport etc.
